Getting started
How DOC MD Works: A Video Visit, Step by Step
A first telehealth visit is easier when you know what to expect. This is the DOC MD process from start to finish.
Last updated October 29, 2026
Step 1: Tell us what is going on
Create an account and sign in. In the booking flow you describe your symptoms in your own words, or pick from quick symptom choices such as cough, fever, sore throat, headache, rash, sinus pressure, or UTI symptoms. DOC MD's AI assistant can help you describe what you feel. It is guidance only. It is not a diagnosis, and it is not emergency triage.
Step 2: Choose a clinician and a time
Choose the kind of clinician you need, then pick someone who is available now or book a time that works for you. DOC MD is a technology platform and the care comes from the independent, licensed clinician you choose, who uses their own clinical judgment.
Step 3: See the price and agree to telehealth
A standard primary care video visit is $89 per visit, shown before you confirm. DOC MD places a temporary card authorization for that amount. It is captured only if you are seen or the visit is approved as eligible, and released otherwise. Before a first video visit you also review and accept a telehealth consent. California law requires that consent to be documented, and the visit cannot start until it is stored.
Step 4: Meet by secure video
At the visit time you join a secure video room from a phone, tablet, or computer, on the web or in the iOS or Android app. DOC MD does not save a recording of your visit in your account, and you can turn your camera or microphone off. The clinician will ask about your symptoms and history. They may tell you that you need a test or an in-person visit.
Step 5: Leave with a plan
After the visit you can see a visit summary and send secure messages to your care team. If the clinician decides a medicine is appropriate, the prescription can be sent to your pharmacy. A prescription is never guaranteed, and DOC MD does not offer controlled substances through its questionnaire visits. Follow-ups can be scheduled when your clinician recommends them.
Getting ready
- Use a private place with a stable internet connection.
- Have your medication list, allergies, and pharmacy details ready.
- Write down when symptoms started and what you have tried.
- Take photos of any rash or visible problem in good light.
- You must be 18 or older to book. For a child, contact the child's pediatrician.
Your privacy
DOC MD does not sell consumer health data and does not geofence. Consent to collect your health information and consent to share it are separate choices. Both boxes start unchecked at registration, and you can withdraw either one later in Settings. Read the Privacy Policy and Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy for details.
When to seek in-person or emergency care
DOC MD is not an emergency service and is not monitored for emergencies. Do not use a video visit, messages, or the assistant for an emergency. Call 911 if you have:
- Chest pain or pressure, trouble breathing, or fainting
- Signs of a stroke, such as face drooping or slurred speech
- Severe bleeding, a serious injury, or a seizure
- Thoughts of harming yourself. In the U.S., call or text 988.
